Walter Johnson, Round-up and a preview

Today, I begin a segment intended to run frequently, but will probably only be done two or three more times – Greatest Fantasy Seasons of the Past.

Walter Johnson’s 1913 season is on deck today. In 1913, Johnson won his first of two MVP awards at the age of 25. Johnson had an ERA of 1.14 and a WHIP of 0.780 that season and had an ERA+ of 259, the sixth highest single season ERA+ of all time. Here are his fantasy numbers from that season (keep in mind they did not record quality starts or blown saves at that time).

W – 36 (360)
L – 7 (-70)
ER – 44 (-132)
BB – 38 (-57)
K – 243 (729)
SHO – 11 (165)
SV – 1 (5)
H – 232 (-232)
IP – 346 (519)
HBP – 9 (-9)
QS – n/a
BS – n/a

This brings the total to 1278 fantasy points. Not too shabby. Tim Lincecum is leading all fantasy pitchers this season with 411 points, well behind the pace set by Johnson in 1913.

Monday Round-up

Roy Halladay – W, 9 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 6 K
Greg Smith – W, 9 IP, 4 H, ER, 2 BB, 3 K
Kyle Lohse – W, 7 IP, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
Mark DeRosa – 3-for-4, 2 HR, 3 runs, 6 RBI
Josh Willingham – 2-for-4, 2 HR, 3 runs, 3 RBI
Nick Swisher – 2-for-4, 2 runs, 5 RBI
Edgar Gonzalez – 4-for-5, 2 HR, 3 runs, 3 RBI

Tuesday Preview

The Inoculators with try to chip away at the Cockies early 52.5 point lead by starting four pitchers – Matt Cain, Randy Johnson, Matt Garza and Todd Wellemeyer. The Cockies will counter with Jesse Litsch. Joel built his lead on the power of a 12 point performance from Troy Glaus and 30 points from Gavin Floyd.

The Phantom Menaces hope to put away the Dynamite early with starts from Cliff Lee and Scott Baker. Dynamite is hoping a full starting lineup and a couple of saves from Billy Wagner and Takashi Saito will put him back in the matchup.

KC and the Smurfs are separated by just one point after one day. KC will throw out Jeff Suppan while the Smurf are hoping Alex Rodriguez and Jason Giambi rough up Kevin Millwood.

Wins from Greg Smith and Francisco Cordero, plus a save from Joakim Soria, gave the Roid Needles and early lead over the division leading Halos. The Halos will counter with three starters, including rookie stud Edinson Volquez. CRN will counter with Ervin Santana.

The opportunity for a huge day one lead was derailed by a terrible Brian Fuentes outing (.1 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, Loss, -29.5 fantasy point). Roy Oswalt had a 40 point game for the Zou but left after six innings with a hip injury. Erik will send out five starters – Rich Harden, Joba Chamberlain, Clayton Kershaw, Wandy Rodriguez and Luke Hochevar – Tuesday in hopes to jump out into a big early lead. The Rasmi will counter with Tim Wakefield.
